Keagan has been studying music from the age of 6, and began performing regularly in live music venues at the age of 13. He began his formal studies at the University of Toronto, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance. During his time at U of T, Keagan studied under many notable Canadian musicians and received tutelage from some of the world’s most renown drummers.
Keagan teaches drums and piano at the Melody School. As a teacher, he stresses the importance of technical fundamentals at all stages of musical development. The forming and maintenance of good technical habits allows students to form a closer relationship with their instrument and access complicated concepts with relative ease. As a trained Jazz musician, Keagan also believes in the benefits of improvisation and creative practice, and often encourages students to experiment in the practice room. He aims to make sure that students have all the tools they need to find their own musical voice, and have fun while doing it.
